What’s an SSL certificate and do I need one?

Authors list

A Secure Sockets Layer certificate is a digital certificate that provides assurance for anyone visiting your site that your website is safe to use. It means you use an encrypted, secure connection. If you have any forms on site, then you need to have an SSL certificate. It’s most important and completely non-negotiable if customers are submitting credit card information.

Google has recently started penalising websites that don’t have a valid SSL certificate, regardless of whether you have forms or e-commerce, which will make it harder to get a good ranking in search results for any site.

If you have a site hosted with us, it will automatically come with SSL as standard.
